Niacin is essential to good health of the human body. The formula C6H5NO2 is basic, however, extremely important to regulating over 450 functions in the body, including, high blood cholesterol, via improving Good cholesterol and lowering bad cholesterol.
Niacin also prevents Pellagra, an extremely deadly disease, back in 1940s when the connection between Niacin and Pellagra was unknown, 100,000 people each year died due to lack of Niacin! Niacin can cause a flush of blood with a tingling sensation, to prevent this, another form of Niacin is used called Niacinamide. All types of Niacin should be taken with equal dosages of Vitamin C. This lowers the level of Histamine, thus preventing Anaphylactic Shock. This could happen if a person is sensitive to a certain protein.
The new DV daily value for Niacin is 16 mg, this is extremely low, it only prevents outright disease, and is not enough for optimum health. 75 mg to 250 mg Niacin is recommended for active people.
Niacin also helps “ADD” Attention Deficit Disorder and Lupus at higher doses near 1,000 mg per day up to 3,000 mg per day divided between three meals including Vitamin C at similar doses. Arthritis has shown improvement with 250 mg Niacinamide three times a day. Improvements in some forms of Pellagra induced Schizophrenics have recovery rates near 90% when on 3,000 mg Niacin and 10,000 mg of Vitamin C.
A new form of B3 called Nicotinamide Riboside acts to increase NAD+ , this mimics a calorie restricted diet that fine tunes our metabolic system, to burn fat and improve insulin sensitivity.
